Its a small village near Shimoga. Here there are people who can speak Sanskrit.
Returing from Kemmangundi to Shimoga we planned to go the Village Mattur , where I heard some people speak Sanskrit as a daily language.Earlier I read an article in Time Of India about this village and the adjacent Hosahalli. The article inspired me and convinced my friends in adding this place to our itinerary. Finally when we asked our Driver to drive slowly into the village streets so that we will find right place to stop. But to our surprise we found many Muslim houses , people speaking in Kannada there. All of us stretched our eardrums to hear at least a single Sanskrit word.Hmmm... No use.
At last we dared to ask some one there about this , they showed us some street where we can find the right people. We went there and came to know that few people there speak variant of Sanskrit[Sankara], a mixture of Tamil,Malayalam,Kannada and Sanskrit. We requested them to speak in the language , and we were able to understand few words and the meaning of the whole sentence. The village lies on the banks of Thunga river and was very peaceful.
